James Goreski Private Foundation Awards $15,000 Grant to YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce to support Strong Communities Fund

Owen Sound, ON – The YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce is thrilled to publicaly announce the receipt of a generous $15,000 grant from the James Goreski Private Foundation. This significant contribution will directly support the YMCA Strong Communities Fund, a financial assistance program ensuring that individuals and families in our community have access to essential health and wellness programs, regardless of their financial circumstances.

The James Goreski Private Foundation was established in memory of James Goreski, a long-time advocate for community support and health initiatives, who passed away on June 26, 2017, after a prolonged battle with cancer. Inspired by his father’s wish for local lottery winners to give back to their communities, Jason Goreski created the foundation following his 649 lottery win on February 3, 2019. Jason’s sister, Lisa, who is actively involved in the healthcare field, played a pivotal role in assisting the family during James’ illness, further motivating the foundation’s mission.

The mission of the James Goreski Private Foundation is to improve the lives of Grey and Bruce County residents by providing resources to groups and organizations committed to promoting health and assisting those who suffer from health-related issues. The foundation aims to support individuals and families dealing with health challenges, honoring James Goreski’s legacy of community support.

Serving the community since 1877, the YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce enriches lives through a variety of programs focused on health, fitness, aquatics, recreation, child care, community justice, settlement services, housing support, and employment services. The YMCA is dedicated to nurturing the potential of children, youth, and seniors, promoting healthy living, and fostering social responsibility.

The grant of $15,000 will be allocated specifically to the YMCA Strong Communities Fund, a financial assistance program. This program ensures that everyone has the opportunity to participate in YMCA activities, regardless of their financial situation. Last fiscal year, the YMCA provided financial assistance to 984 individuals (539 families), helping them access essential programs like swimming lessons, summer camps, and fitness classes.

“Everyone deserves a chance to improve their lives in mind, body, and spirit,” said April Robinson, Manager of Fund Development. “This generous grant from the James Goreski Private Foundation will help us continue to provide critical services to our community, ensuring that financial barriers do not prevent individuals and families from accessing the resources they need to thrive.”
