Owen Sound, ON – The YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce is proud to announce that it has once again received a generous $10,000 grant from the Eva Leflar Foundation. This critical funding will directly support the YMCA Strong Communities Fund, ensuring that individuals and families in need have access to life-changing YMCA programs through the organization’s financial assistance program.
The YMCA Strong Communities Fund helps ensure no one is turned away due to financial barriers. It provides access to programs that foster confidence, health, and a sense of belonging, especially for those facing challenges such as economic hardship, health issues, and social isolation. This year’s grant from the Eva Leflar Foundation will help the YMCA continue to meet the growing demand for support across Grey and Bruce Counties.
“Over the past fiscal year, we provided $187,770 in financial assistance, an amount that continues to grow well beyond the $76,650 we raised through fundraising efforts during the year,” says April McMillan, Manager of Fund Development. “This shows just how crucial the Strong Communities Fund is in helping people access programs that support their well-being. We’re incredibly grateful to the Eva Leflar Foundation for their continued support, it’s making a real difference in our community.”
Thanks to caring supporters like the Eva Leflar Foundation, the YMCA can remove barriers and help our community shine in the moments that matter most. Whether it’s a child laughing out loud in swimming lessons or someone finding hope in a health and wellness class, donations ensure these positive, life-changing moments are possible for more people, right here in Grey Bruce.
The Eva Leflar Foundation was established in 1990 by Eva Leflar, a lifelong Owen Sound resident with a deep commitment to helping children and families in her community. Over the past two decades, the Foundation has supported local youth by funding opportunities in the arts, sports, and education, and has also contributed to improved neonatal and pediatric care at local hospitals. Eva’s legacy of compassion and community spirit continues to make a lasting impact through grants like this one.
