YMCA Senior Socials

Looking for a chance to connect, stay active, and have fun with others in your community? Senior Socials are the perfect way to do just that! Join us on the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month from 9:45–10:45 AM at 700 10th Street East, Owen Sound. These gatherings are FREE for everyone and include coffee, refreshments, games, activities, and friendly conversation. Each session is designed to support healthy aging through movement, connection, and community, helping older adults stay active, engaged, and thriving.

On the 1st Monday of every month, we also welcome a local guest speaker who will share an engaging presentation on a variety of topics. These talks are a great opportunity to learn something new, hear from local experts, and spark meaningful conversations.

Here’s what’s coming up:

  • October 6 – Jill Paterson, Grey Roots Museum & Archives
Jill Paterson, Manager of the Museum & Archives, presents All Things Grey Roots. Learn about the fascinating work being done to preserve and share our region’s rich history.

  • November 3 – Dave Alexander, Billy Bishop Museum
Dave Alexander, Board Vice-Chair at the Billy Bishop Museum and retired teacher, presents Crusaders Serving the World: Going to War With the Royal Canadian Air Force. Explore the contributions of locals who served in WWII, with stories from the RCAF Women’s Division, the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan, Ferry Command, Bomber Command, and Fighter Command. This presentation is inspired by an exhibit currently on display at the Billy Bishop Museum.

  • December 1 – Jackie Ralph, CMHA Grey Bruce
Jackie Ralph, Youth & Adult Awareness & Education Supervisor, presents Mental Health Literacy. This session focuses on making mental health care part of our daily routine, just like brushing our teeth or taking a shower. Jackie will share strategies to protect and support your mental well-being, along with a wide range of resources available locally, provincially, and nationally.

More speakers will be announced in the coming months!

Whether you’re interested in learning something new, staying active, or simply enjoying good company, Senior Socials are a welcoming space for all older adults. Register online, at our welcome desk or drop in.

Funding for this project is provided by the Government of Ontario and Community Foundation Grey Bruce
