This position is being funded by Canada Summer Jobs. Applicants must be between the ages of 15 and 30 at the beginning of the employment period to be eligible for this position.<\/p>\n<h1>Qualifications<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li>Possess or working towards a post-secondary degree or diploma in environmental sciences, environmental engineering, natural resources management or a related field<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge and experience with hydrology and collection of hydrometric and meteorological data<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge and experience with streamflow measurement techniques and equipment<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge and experience with surface or ground water sampling and benthic invertebrate sampling and processing<\/li>\n<li>Experience in management of data and database systems<\/li>\n<li>Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite<\/li>\n<li>Sound analytical thinking, planning, and organization skills<\/li>\n<li>Ability to undertake field work under varying terrain and weather conditions<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of safety hazards related to working around water and roadways<\/li>\n<li>Valid &lsquo;G&rsquo; Class Driver&rsquo;s License<\/li>\n<li>Valid First Aid Certificate is considered an asset<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1>Duties and Responsibilities<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li>Assist with the installation, inspection and maintenance of stream gauge stations and meteorological monitoring equipment<\/li>\n<li>Cleaning and calibration of precipitation gauges<\/li>\n<li>Obtaining streamflow measurements for the development of rating curves<\/li>\n<li>Completion of elevation surveys using a rod and optical level<\/li>\n<li>Assist with surface water sampling, ground water sampling and benthic invertebrate sampling<\/li>\n<li>Assist with sorting benthic invertebrate samples<\/li>\n<li>Quality assurance, control, and entry of hydrometric and water quality data<\/li>\n<li>Development, review, and update of plans and standard operating procedures<\/li>\n<li>Review and archive of historical flood records<\/li>\n<li>Support other activities within the Water Resources Department, as required<\/li>\n<li>Abide by all SVCA policies and procedures, including those related to health and safety and use all required PPE<\/li>\n<li>Other duties as assigned appropriate to the position<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1>Work Environment and Conditions<\/h1>\n<p>The successful candidate must be prepared to work in an office environment as well as outdoors, around water. All successful applicants must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions, in uneven terrain.
