The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to community involvement, sustainability, and the principles of food sovereignty, ensuring that our gardening practices are accessible and beneficial to all community members.<\/p>\n<h1>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Education and Experience):<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li>Ability to lift<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work outside<\/li>\n<li>Proven experience in planting, growing and garden maintenance<\/li>\n<li>Excellent verbal and written communication skills<\/li>\n<li>CPIC or willingness to obtain<\/li>\n<li>Possess a valid Class G Ontario driver&#8217;s license<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li>Ability to network with community membership and band programs<\/li>\n<li>Ability to establish positive relationships and rapport with senior staff, co-workers, volunteers<\/li>\n<li>Good judgement skills, tact, excellent work habits and interpersonal skills<\/li>\n<li>Understanding of goals and objectives of Nawash Food Sovereignty\/Security Initiatives<\/li>\n<li>Time management skills<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work with minimum supervision<\/li>\n<li>Ability to use gardening tools as required<\/li>\n<li>Ability to direct volunteers<\/li>\n<li>Computer literacy in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher)<\/li>\n<li>Willingness to take all reasonable and necessary precautions to ensure personal health and safety and that of fellow employees<\/li>\n<li>Willingness to take additional training as required<\/li>\n<li>Small group facilitation experience is an asset.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>KEY RESPONSIBILITIES<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Garden Management: Plan, plant, and maintain the community garden, ensuring best practices in sustainable agriculture and permaculture methods.<\/li>\n<li>Food Sovereignty Initiatives Coordination: Develop and implement programs that promote food sovereignty within the community, including educational workshops, seed saving initiatives, and culturally relevant planting practices. Collaborate with community members to identify their needs and preferences regarding food systems.<\/li>\n<li>Volunteer Recruitment and Management: Recruit, train, and manage volunteers to assist with various aspects of garden maintenance and related food sovereignty programs. Foster a sense of community and ownership among volunteers.<\/li>\n<li>Community Engagement: Organize and facilitate community events, gatherings, and workshops to raise awareness of food sovereignty and encourage participation in the community garden.<\/li>\n<li>Partnership Development: Build relationships with local organizations, schools, and other stakeholders to support food sovereignty initiatives and enhance the community garden&#8217;s impact.<\/li>\n<li>Documentation and Reporting: Maintain records of garden activities, volunteer hours, and program outcomes, providing regular reports to stakeholders on the progress and success of initiatives.<\/li>\n<li>Advocacy: Advocate for community concerns related to food access, sovereignty, and environmental sustainability within local and regional forums.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1>POSTING CLOSES: Tuesday, May 6, 2025 4:00 pm EST<\/h1>\n<h1>LATE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.<\/h1>\n<h1>Band members and people of native ancestry are encouraged to apply.
