Nature and Scope of Position: The Youth Gambling Awareness Program is funded by Ministry of Health and Long-term Care and designed to raise awareness regarding youth problem gambling. This program provides multi-faceted and innovative approaches to problem gambling prevention through outreach, community education, and community awareness activities. As a longtime and successful program with YMCA, it is anticipated that this contract will be extended.

Responsibilities: 

  • Deliver and facilitate educational workshops to youth (8-24 yrs), teachers, health professionals and other agencies/organizations working with youth
  • Establish and maintain relationships with local school boards, community and youth service providers
  • Design and implement youth engagement activities related to youth gambling awareness
  • Maintain up to date knowledge regarding issues and trends related to youth gambling
  • Develop and implement effective outreach strategies to engage local community and meet monthly presentation targets
  • Plan, organize and implement community involvement initiatives to raise awareness about youth problem gambling in partnership with other community organizations

 

Qualifications: 

  • University degree or college diploma (or equivalent) in Social Sciences, Education or other related field Knowledge of problem gambling and associated behaviour
  • Experience in the delivery of public health, prevention and awareness initiatives
  • Experience with outreach activities and strategies
  • Experience in group facilitation  Knowledge of harm reduction principles
  • Experience in working with youthUnderstanding of principles of learning for both youth and adults
  • Ability to work in an efficient manner with a high degree of independence
  • Knowledge of the community resources in Owen Sound and surrounding areas is an asset Reliable vehicle for travel through catchment area (Grey and Bruce Counties)
  • Current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Sector Check issued no later than 90 days preceding start date
  • Successful candidates must show proof of being fully vaccinated with two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine plus 14 days or provide proof of vaccination exemption under the Ontario Human Rights Code.
