Job Description

Bluewater Youth & Adult Services is a 4 bed, long term, group care residence for behavioural and/or developmental youth aged 11 – 17 years.

Youth care workers are expected to provide basic daily care and supervision to youth, including health and safety, behaviour management, individualized programming and community safety/involvement. Youth care workers are expected to work co-operatively with a team, utilizing therapeutic relationships and approaches.

The Youth Worker plays a vital role in supporting and mentoring children and young adults, particularly those with disabilities. This position involves creating a safe and engaging environment where youth can thrive, learn, and develop essential life skills. The Youth Worker will work closely with individuals to foster personal growth, encourage positive behaviors, and facilitate educational activities.

Duties

  • Provide direct support to children and young adults, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
  • Develop and implement engaging activities that promote learning, social interaction, and personal development.
  • Work collaboratively with families, educators, and other professionals to create individualized support plans tailored to each youth’s needs.
  • Assist in teaching essential life skills, including communication, problem-solving, and decision-making.
  • Monitor progress and provide feedback to families and team members regarding the youth’s development.
  • Maintain accurate records of activities, progress notes, and any incidents that occur during sessions.
  • Foster a positive environment that encourages participation and builds self-esteem among youth.

Requirements

  • Experience working with people with disabilities is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience in educational or recreational settings involving children is preferred.
  • Strong teaching skills with the ability to engage youth in meaningful activities.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with youth, families, and team members.
  • Ability to demonstrate patience, empathy, and understanding in all interactions.
