The City of Owen Sound is seeking applicants for the role of Water Distribution Summer Student. This position is responsible to conduct the City’s annual water main flushing program. The student will work independently with a City vehicle to flush the water mains via the City’s hydrant system. The Summer Student position reports to the Water Distribution Superintendent.

Wage Range: $20.00/hour
Hours of Work: 8 hours a day/40 hours a week Monday to Friday.
Education Required: Ontario Secondary School Diploma and Operator in Training Certificate from the Ontario Water Wastewater Certification Office (OWWCO).
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Flush the City’s water mains through the hydrant system.
- Maintain and operate water distribution system to ensure proper operation;
- Maintain and operate motorized vehicles and equipment related to water distribution maintenance;
- Maintain logs and other forms of record-keeping related to distribution activities;
- Assist in the performance of routine duties and inspections at various water system sites including reservoirs, and pumping stations;
- Perform routine water analysis.
Requirements:
- Must have a minimum of G2 driver’s license with a clean drivers abstract
- Completion of Ontario Secondary School or equivalent (GED)
- Operator in Training Certificate from the Ontario Water Wastewater Certification Office (OWWCO).
- Ability to work 8 hours per day/40 hours per week for the full duration of assignment
- Ability to work evenings and weekends if required
- Ability to work safely as per Occupational Health & Safety Act
- Basic computer knowledge
