About the Position:

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Senior Accounting/Payroll Clerk administers bi-weekly payroll for the Corporation and general Accounts Receivable, as well as provides general accounting support to the finance department.

Primary Responsibilities:

Payroll Administration

  • Process bi-weekly payroll for all employees of the Municipality.
  • Inputs new employees and terminates employees from payroll and enrolls new employees for OMERS and group benefits.
  • Assists with the preparation of T4 and T4A slips, pay slips and balance summaries for employees.
  • Prepares, distributes and balances a variety of monthly and annual remittances such as OMERS, WSIB, LTD/STD, Employee Health Tax, & Receiver General and RSP’s.

Accounts Receivable

  • Prepares, enters and distributes A/R invoices for Municipal Office.
  • Prepare monthly the A/R invoices required by the Fire, Material Management, Roads, Library and Animal Control.
  • Process the monthly penalty and interest in the A/R computer program (general, waste management, and animal control).

Accounting

  • Assists Chief Financial Officer with various tasks, including but not limited to the provision of information for the yearly audit.
  • Assists with processing CRA filing requirements (i.e. HST etc.) and audit inquiries.
  • Maintain current and up-to-date knowledge of municipal finance legislation

Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills Required:

  • Post-Secondary Degree or Diploma in Accounting or Business or related field.
  • Minimum of two to three years direct experience in the field.
  • AMCTO Municipal Accounting & Finance Program (MFAP) and Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) is considered an asset.
  • Previous experience in a municipal environment with knowledge of municipal finance & payroll is considered an asset.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft office including spreadsheet application and advanced skills in computerized accounting software.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with the public and peers.
  • Requires strong oral and written skills (tact, diplomacy, good judgment).
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and meet deadlines and ensure confidentiality of information.

  • Rate of pay between $59,150 – $69,196 depending on qualifications and experience.
  • Work week is Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week.
