Job Description

Under the direction of the Roads Supervisor, the Roads Operator Trainee assists with Roads and Sanitation operations while developing the skills and experience required for a Roads Operator position. The trainee supports road, ditch, fence, cemetery, landfill, landscaping, shop, equipment, snow removal, sanding/salting, waste collection and related public works activities under supervision and in accordance with training, procedures and health and safety requirements.

Hours of Work: 40 hrs per week

What is Required?

  • Experience in road maintenance, landscaping, general labour, equipment operation or a municipal/First Nation public works environment is an asset
  • Willingness and ability to complete on-the-job, equipment and safety training
  • Employer is willing to cover classroom training to obtain DZ Licence
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s Licence (Class G)
  • Clear and Recent Driver’s Abstract
  • Verification of physical ability to perform all functions of the job before finalization of employment offer; a medical certificate from physician may be requested
  • Must be available to work all shifts, including 8, 10, or 12 hours rotating shifts when required

Equivalencies that include a combination of education and experience may be considered.
