About the Position:
This position is responsible for effective management of the Landfill operations during normal operating days and to provide a variety of maintenance, grounds keeping and routine inspection services for the safety and convenience of the public.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Enters information to operate the landfill scale program, including vehicle license plate, weigh in, weigh out, category, source to determine applicable charges.
- Accepts payment for gate fees by cash, cheque or on preauthorized account.
- Responsible for balancing cash receipts and delivering payment to the bank daily.
- Processes chargeable accounts.
- Arranges for any non-scheduled collection of the MTO building and Greenock/Brant Landfill.
- Develop work schedule for Greenock and Brant Landfill.
- Maintain proper and correct records as required.
- Ensures the Clear Bag program is adhered too.
- Promote recycling at the Landfill sites
Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills Required:
- Must be available to work Saturdays.
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 1-3 years related experience in waste management facility operations and maintenance is considered an asset.
- Previous experience in weigh scale operations and cash management is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of Annual Report-Landfill Development Operation and Monitoring as prepared by the Municipal Engineers is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of the Certificate of Approval for the Landfill is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of legislation and best practices as it relates to the operation of a waste management facility operations.
- Ability to work with limited supervision.
- Excellent Communication (written, oral and interpersonal) skills.
- Superior Customer Service skills.
- Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations and W.H.M.I.S.
- Possess or willing to obtain a valid First Aid/CPR/AED Certificate.
- Possess a valid Class “G” Driver’s License in good standing with the ability to use own vehicle to transport around the job site.

Landfill Hours (Hours could be subject to change):
April 1st to October 31st
Tuesdays and Wednesdays – 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Saturdays – 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
November 1st to March 31st
Wednesdays – 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Saturdays – 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
What we offer you:
- Rate of pay between $25.77 – $30.14 depending on qualifications and experience.
- Work week is Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays based on above hours, 16-20 hours per week.
- Eligible for enrolment in OMERS pension plan.
