REPORTS TO: Terminal Supervisor
UNION: SIU – Dock / Stock
SALARY: $23.88 per hour
The Dock Person is responsible for performing daily tasks for the efficient and effective operation of the South Baymouth Terminal location. The incumbent works closely with terminal Ticket Agents to ensure smooth, effective, safe, and efficient vehicular traffic and loading vessel coordination.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
The primary job duties and responsibilities of the Dock Person include but are not limited to the following:
- Maintaining safe and clean access to and from the vessel for passengers and vehicles to the terminal and property.
- General maintenance tasks to the terminal, equipment, and grounds.
- Maintaining strict compliance with all safety regulations regarding procedures and equipment as outlined in company policies and procedures.
- Receive traffic, measure, tag, and complete necessary forms for processing.
- Marshaling vehicles in loading and standby zones as instructed by the Ticket Agent.
- Assisting and directing passengers during loading and unloading, including those who may require extra assistance as directed.
- Securing and casting off the vessel as directed.
- Engaging/disengaging the passenger ramp and raising/lowering the vehicle transfer bridge as directed.
- Perform daily, weekly, or monthly checks of the terminal or equipment as directed.
- Perform lawn and landscaping maintenance.
- Participate in drills, emergency response plan duties, and oil response duties as directed Monthly Health and Safety Meetings.
- Perform any other duty as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, WORK EXPERIENCE, and SKILLS
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience directing traffic an asset
- Marine Sector experience an asset
- Customer service experience
- Ability to provide exceptional customer experience and efficiently address customer concerns
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Strong attention to detail
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to handle stress and work under pressure
- Ability to work independently
- Time management skills
- Excellent communication skills
EFFORT – PHYSICAL/SENSORY DEMANDS
- Lift and pack merchandise up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to see 100’ with good depth perception for catching heavy rope lines.
- Pull heavy cables up to 50 feet.
- Stand consistently for 2 hours.3hrs
- Walk long distances (500 meters).
- Able to climb a flight of stairs.
- Ability to climb a 12’ ladder.
- Able to read 12 pt font on manifests.
- Able to hear and respond on two-way radios.

- Zero tolerance for drugs or alcohol
- Personal Protective Equipment (boots, pants, eye and ear protective wear)
