Hours: 18-28 hours per week

Shifts: Days, Evenings, Mornings, Monday – Friday; Weekends

Salary/Wage: $17.91 per hour.

Wages commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Start Date: As soon as possible.

As a charity igniting the potential in people, we are seeking Custodians to help ensure the safety of all members, staff, property and self by following established Workplace Health & Safety practices and procedures. This individual is responsible for always keeping the facility and equipment clean and in good repair.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Perform all light duty cleaning, general cleaning and keep cleaning equipment clean all the time.
  • Clean all areas of the fitness facility and common area as per standard – dust, sweep, wash, mop, vacuum, etc.
  • Ensure equipment and facility are cleaned to SAM standard and be a Leader of our “YMCA Clean Culture”.
  • Replenish toiletries and soap.
  • Remove garbage and recycling.
  • Perform equipment set-ups/take downs in program areas as needed.
  • Keep doorways and outside areas safe; including garbage pick-up, salting and snow clearing as required.
  • Ensure the safety of all members, property and self by following established Workplace Health & Safety practices and procedures.
  • Provide a high standard of customer service to all participants as per SAM standards and other guidelines.
  • Model desired behaviours in line with our Mission, Vision and Values; establish rapport and maintain effective relationship-building behaviours with staff and members; represent the YMCA and the Association in a professional manner.
  • Communicate and work as a team with other staff within the department and between departments.
  • Keep in contact with staff by always having a walkie talkie on person; perform a radio check at the beginning of your scheduled shift.
  • Understand and integrate the value of philanthropy and volunteerism and imparts this knowledge and belief upon staff, volunteers and members.
  • Actively participate in all required training and meetings, including Child Protection training.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • Be a minimum of 18 years of age.
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Have current Standard First Aid, CPR-C, & AED certificate (or willingness to complete prior to starting work).
  • Have current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Sector Search issued no later than ninety (90) days preceding your start date.
  • Provide 3 professional references.
  • Have high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Have relevant work experience (an asset)
  • Have strong attention to detail and organization.
  • Have excellent customer service and teamwork skills.
  • Have excellent communication skills.
