Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Youth and Recreation Supervisor and Day Camp Coordinator, the Day Camp Behaviour Counsellor focuses on addressing and managing behavioral challenges while promoting emotional well-being, positive social interactions, and personal growth among children. Behavior Counselor works closely to identify behavioral needs and help implement appropriate strategies.
Job Requirements:
You must be legally entitled to work in Canada and have Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification. You must have a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. Preference would be post-secondary studies in a field related to children and youth development. Ideally you have prior experience working with special needs children but not required.
If you are 18 years of age or older, a Police Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Checks upon hire is required. We are also looking for 3 professional or character references. Flexibility regarding assigned hours of work and the ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members, staff and volunteers is required.
The YMCA’s Commitment to Protecting Those We Serve:
We are committed to our responsibility to protect the children and other vulnerable people we serve. Therefore, all employees and volunteers must provide a current satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search results as a condition of their employment or volunteer engagement. These police record checks are reviewed on an individual basis, and the offense(s) – if any – is considered in the decision-making process in relation to the requirements of the position, therefore not eliminating all candidates with a record from being offered gainful employment.
The YMCA’s Commitment to Diversity, Inclusion and Equality:

We are committed to an environment that is barrier free. If you require accommodation during the hiring process, please inform us in advance to arrange reasonable and appropriate accommodation.
