Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled and service-focused Barista to join our high-end café team. The ideal candidate is passionate about coffee, committed to exceptional guest experiences, and dedicated to craftsmanship, consistency, and professionalism. This role involves preparing specialty beverages, maintaining an elevated standard of hospitality, and contributing to a warm, welcoming environment for all guests.

Key Responsibilities

Beverage Preparation & Quality Control

  • Prepare high-quality espresso-based beverages, cold brew, Italian sodas, specialty lattes, and premium café drinks with precision and consistency.
  • Operate and maintain commercial espresso machines, grinders, brewers, and cold-beverage equipment.
  • Calibrate grinders daily to ensure optimal extraction and flavour quality.
  • Follow all drink recipes, presentation standards, and portion controls.

Customer Service & Guest Experience

  • Deliver exceptional hospitality that aligns with an upscale café environment.
  • Provide knowledgeable guidance on beverage selections, flavour profiles, and menu pairings.
  • Build rapport with guests and contribute to a positive, welcoming atmosphere.
  • Handle customer concerns professionally, promptly, and with a solutions-oriented mindset.

Food Handling & Café Operations

  • Assist in preparing and presenting pastries, breakfast offerings, grab-and-go items, and siesta lunch boards.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the café, including counters, condiment stations, and seating areas.
  • Follow all food safety, sanitation, and hygiene protocols.

Inventory & Equipment Management

  • Monitor stock levels for coffee beans, dairy, syrups, cups, and other barista-related supplies.
  • Communicate low inventory items to management in a timely manner.
  • Perform routine equipment cleaning and support maintenance to ensure longevity and optimal performance.

Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with fellow baristas, kitchen staff, and management to ensure seamless operations.
  • Support new staff with training and uphold the café’s service standards.
  • Maintain a cooperative, respectful, and professional work environment.

Qualifications

  • Previous barista or specialty coffee experience preferred; high-end café experience is an asset.
  • Strong understanding of espresso extraction, milk texturing, and specialty beverage preparation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Passion for coffee, food, hospitality, and customer experience.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Availability for early mornings, weekdays, and potential weekend shifts.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Light to moderate lifting (up to 30 lbs).
  • Manual dexterity to operate café equipment safely.
