Job purpose
As a Shift Supervisor at Cobble Beach, you are responsible for the overall atmosphere of the restaurant. You must possess expertise of all food and beverage offerings within the establishment. You will be expected to present yourself in a professional manner, reflecting the upscale environment of your workplace. Special attention should be paid to providing an exceptional customer experience during all steps of service as well as maintaining a team atmosphere with your peers on both the service and culinary teams to achieve your common goal.
Duties and responsibilities
Leadership & Team Support
- Lead front of house staff during assigned shifts
- Provide direction, coaching, and support to servers, hosts, and bartenders
- Ensure staff follow service standards, policies, and safety procedures
- Assist with training new team members
Guest Experience
- Maintain a welcoming, professional atmosphere throughout all food and beverage outlets
- Address guest concerns promptly and effectively
- Support staff in delivering exceptional service during busy periods
- Monitor table flow and guest satisfaction
Operational Oversight
- Oversee opening and closing procedures
- Manage shift checklists and ensure all tasks are completed
- Monitor cleanliness, organization, and readiness of all service areas
- Coordinate with kitchen staff to ensure smooth communication and timing
Administrative & Cash Handling
- Handle cash‑outs, balance tills, and complete shift reports
- Process voids, discounts, and adjustments according to policy
- Assist with inventory counts and restocking as needed
Problem Solving & Decision Making
- Resolve service issues, staff conflicts, or operational challenges
- Make real‑time decisions to maintain service flow and guest satisfaction
- Step into any role (host, server, runner) when required
Health & Safety
- Ensure compliance with food safety, alcohol service laws, and workplace safety standards
- Monitor staff adherence to hygiene and sanitation protocols
Other
- Learn all details of menu and anticipate questions that may be asked
- Learn wine & cocktail lists
- Follow all steps of service
- Develop and grow relationships with members
- Maintain a clean & tidy workplace
- Support F&B Manager in daily tasks
- Bartending – understanding of cocktail list & popular cocktails
- Ability to recommend menu items; having knowledge of flavours and composition
- Ability to recommend wines & cocktails; understanding flavour profiles
- Assist with monthly inventory and ordering
Qualifications
- Smart Serve Certification
- 1-3 years serving experience
- Food and wine knowledge an asset
- 1 year of supervisory experience in a restaurant setting
- Experience with OpenTable & Jonas software an asset
Working conditions
This position requires you to be available anytime the restaurant is open. This includes Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Banquets and special occasions. This position can require long hours and will include working on holidays.
