Position Summary
The Financial Controller is responsible for overseeing the financial health of Shouldice Stone by managing accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance. This role plays a critical part in supporting strategic decision-making, ensuring accuracy and integrity of financial information, and partnering with leadership to drive sustainable growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and deliver monthly and quarterly financial reporting packages for the Executive Team
- Own the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and balancing of the income statement
- Complete bank reconciliations, account reconciliations, and CAPEX tracking and allocation
- Process and oversee all bank wires, EFTs, and payments, ensuring accuracy and proper approvals
- Administer payroll, benefits, and pension programs, ensuring compliance and timely processing
- Prepare, file, and manage all required government and statutory submissions, including:
- Quebec Business Registration
- RPRA (Resource Productivity & Recovery Authority – formerly HWIN)
- Lead year-end close activities, including preparation of working papers, schedules, and coordination with external accounting firms (significant workload during year-end period)
- Maintain and update QuickBooks and M1, including:
- Posting journal entries and adjustments
- Reviewing transactions for accuracy and reasonability
- Preparing files and supporting documentation for external accountants
- Posting year-end entries and filing HST from finalized statements
- Prepare and maintain US sales reports and related reconciliations
- Review receipts and expense entries, transfer funds, upload payments to banking platforms, and ensure proper posting
- Track, calculate, and reconcile customer rebates
- Responsible for all accounts payable and receivable
- Managing and leading two direct reports
Reports To: CEO
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in accounting or financial management
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance requirements
- Experience in Manufacturing Environment is a bonus
- Proficiency with financial systems and platforms
- Advanced Excel and financial analysis skills
- Experience working in a multi-department or cross-functional environment
- Experience leading a small finance team
