Job Description

Position Summary

This position assists local event organizers to run community events, festivals, and high-traffic tourism locations throughout the area and to represent Discover South Bruce Peninsula by promoting local attractions, businesses, events, and services at these events.

The successful candidate will work side by side with event organizers and engage directly with event attendees, distribute tourism materials and promotional items, conduct informal surveys, and gather visitor feedback through conversation. This role requires an enthusiastic, outgoing individual who is confident initiating discussions and passionate about promoting tourism in the area.

Key Responsibilities

  • Represent Discover South Bruce Peninsula by travelling to events and tourism locations throughout the region.
  • Engage visitors in friendly, informative conversations about local attractions, parks, beaches, trails, businesses, and events
  • Conduct brief spoken surveys and accurately record and create reports of the responses
  • Provide knowledgeable recommendations about tourism sites and experiences within the area
  • Distribute maps, brochures, and promotional materials
  • Set up and dismantle promotional displays or booths
  • Take photos which highlight community activities for social media content
  • Maintain inventory of promotional materials and supplies
  • Perform related duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Valid Class G driver’s license and access to reliable transportation with space to transport materials to events.
  • Access to a smartphone.
  • Ability to work independently and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Second language an asset.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Confident and comfortable initiating conversations with the public.
  • Confident speaking with tourists and representing the municipality professionally.
  • Knowledge of South Bruce Peninsula attractions and amenities and a willingness to learn quickly.

Working Conditions

  • Primarily field-based work at events and outdoor locations.
  • Frequent travel within South Bruce Peninsula.
  • Evening and weekend work required.
  • Prolonged standing at events and outdoor exposure.
  • Lifting up to 60lbs.
