Purpose

Reporting to the Project Manager, the role of the Community Outreach Specialist is to help implement the Everyone Belongs in Grey Bruce Pilot Project as described in the approved project outline with the Ontario Trillium SEED Grant program. The Community Outreach Specialist is a 12-month, part-time (15 hours/week) position. The purpose of the Everyone Belongs in Grey Bruce project is to pilot a series of free, accessible, and culturally rich activities to connect people of all ages and backgrounds through shared experiences of food, place, learning, and dialogue. The one-year pilot program (March 2, 2026-March 2, 2027) is designed to reduce social isolation and build stronger, more inclusive communities across Grey and Bruce Counties. Through a series of free, accessible, and culturally rich activities, the program will connect people of all ages and backgrounds—including newcomers, Indigenous peoples, visible minorities, and long-term residents—through shared experiences of food, place, learning, and dialogue.

Community Outreach Specialist Responsibilities

 

  • Work closely with the Program Manager to ensure successful completion of Everyone Belong Project activities and deliverables.
  • Lead grassroots outreach to engage diverse community members across Grey–Bruce
  • Recruit participants, volunteers, and community hosts for project activities
  • Build partnerships with community hosts, Indigenous Elders/Knowledge Keepers, and local organizations
  • Coordinate logistics and on-the-ground delivery of 8 community events
  • Build trusting relationships with community partners and local champions
  • Ensure welcoming, culturally safe, and accessible participation
  • Collect community stories, feedback, and lived experiences
  • Contribute content to the Belonging Toolkit and knowledge sharing
  • Support evaluation activities, Virtual Belonging Summit and dissemination of findings.

Working Conditions

The is a one-year part-time contract position based on 15 hours of work per week.

The position begins on March 30, 2026, and ends March 2, 2027. Hours of work will be determined through a weekly schedule developed by the Project Manager. A flexible schedule is required with some evening. Must be available over the weekend for Events and working remotely may be necessary to meet the needs of the project. The Community Outreach Specialist Project will work from a home office.

Knowledge and Skill

  • Demonstrated personal and/or professional experience working within community and newcomers, refugees and/or immigrants in the Grey Bruce region
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in the humanities, social sciences, community services or related discipline with demonstrated work with experience with community organizations and/or groups.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, experience with community outreach and knowledge of the Grey and Bruce region.
  • Knowledge of immigration and refugee systems and systemic barriers to inclusion for diverse people in the region,
  • Demonstrated skills and experience working with community groups and volunteer management,
  • Strong interpersonal skills combined with demonstrated relationship building, time management, analytical, research, problem solving and public speaking skills.
  • Ability to travel within Grey and Bruce County with own vehicle as necessary.

Compensation

Compensation is based on a contract for 15hours/week at $28.00 per hour inclusive of salary and benefits.
