Your Opportunity to be the Spark!
As a charity igniting the potential in people, we are seeking a passionate, creative, and fun Day Camp Counsellor who loves working with children.
Responsibilities:
As a Summer Day Camp Counsellor at the YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce, you will be responsible for providing leadership and supervision to a group of campers, ensuring their safety and well-being throughout the camp day. You will plan, organize, and lead various activities such as arts and crafts, sports, educational games, and outdoor adventures, tailored to the campers’ interests and developmental needs. Your role will also include fostering social, emotional, and physical skill development, encouraging teamwork, communication, and problem-solving. Effective communication with campers, their families, and fellow staff members is essential for providing updates and addressing any concerns. Additionally, you will assist with administrative duties such as tracking attendance, reporting incidents, and ensuring that camp policies and procedures are followed.
Job Requirements:
You must be legally entitled to work in Canada and have Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification. Ideally, you have prior experience working with children in a camp or educational setting, however, a strong passion for working with children and outdoor activities is key to success in the role. If you are 18 years of age or older, a Police Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Checks upon hire is required. We are also looking for 3 professional or character references. Flexibility regarding assigned hours of work and the ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members, staff and volunteers is required.
The YMCA’s Commitment to Protecting Those We Serve:
We are committed to our responsibility to protect the children and other vulnerable people we serve. Therefore, all employees and volunteers must provide a current satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search results as a condition of their employment or volunteer engagement. These police record checks are reviewed on an individual basis, and the offense(s) – if any – is considered in the decision-making process in relation to the requirements of the position, therefore not eliminating all candidates with a record from being offered gainful employment.
The YMCA’s Commitment to Diversity, Inclusion and Equality:
The YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce values the diversity of people and communities and is committed to excellence and inclusion in our Association. We are committed to an environment that is barrier free. If you require accommodation during the hiring process, please inform us in advance to arrange reasonable and appropriate accommodation.
