Safe ‘n’ Sound is currently seeking individuals to join our team as Frontline Harm Reduction Workers for a contract until April 30th 2026. Safe ‘n’ Sound is a not-for-profit drop-in center in downtown Owen Sound that serves homeless and under-housed individuals. We are seeking passionate individuals to help strengthen our team during our 24- hour winter warming centre programming. Applicants must have a strong commitment to harm reduction and respect for vulnerable peoples.
We are hiring for: part-time overnight, part-time day and evening, and casual staff.

Job Description

Frontline support, referrals, and interventions to deescalate individuals in crisis

Provide crisis intervention, intensive short-term support, and service coordination to Participants in close partnership with the other community agencies and partners.

Manage Participant’s crisis, develop strategies to help them prevent further crisis, provide monitoring and support as they work through their crisis plans and recovery

Provide support to Participant families and friends as appropriate, and with signed consent from participant to disclose information

Work collaboratively with in-house and external services and programs to facilitate a smooth referral and/or crisis management process.

Encourage Participants to participate in their crisis and recovery planning.

Complete all required documentation related to participants’ involvement in Safe ‘n Sound Services, i.e., data collection, daily data entry, Notices of No Trespass, Incident Reports.

Participate or lead (peer) support programs

Maintain a clean and welcoming environment

Prepare breakfast, coffee and other snacks for participants

When required (assist or independently) set up the coffee station, food, meals, laundry, showers, coordinating programs as needed and instructed, cleaning, or other essential services
Harm Reduction

Maintain a positive working relationship with Participants

Distribute harm reduction supplies

Provide data to necessary stakeholders as assigned and requested by Supervisor

Identify any risks or safety concerns with the program that may impact the organization
Assets

Individuals with formal education and those with lived experience will be considered

First Aid

Safe Food Handlers

ASIST, Mental Health First Aid or other equivalent Mental Health training
