Job Description
Reporting to the Culinary Manager, this position is responsible for ensuring the smooth and safe operation of food services. Duties include adhering to all regulations governing food preparation, serving, and sanitation, which encompasses the operation and cleaning of kitchen equipment. The role also requires contributing to meal presentation and offering menu suggestions based on resident preferences. Collaboration with the entire care team, volunteers, and students is essential. The successful candidate must manage supplies efficiently and strictly comply with all relevant health and safety policies and legislation.
We are looking for the following qualifications and traits:

Have successfully completed or are enrolled in a Food Service Worker program at a established under the Ontario Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology Act, 2002 or a Food Service Worker program provided by a registered private career college and approved by the Superintendent of private career colleges under the Private Career Colleges Act, 2005 as required under the Fixing Long Term Care Act, 2021 ss. 79 and Ontario Regulation 84/22 (1) preferred.

Appropriate food service experience, skills and knowledge in fields of institutional, health care, restaurant or hospitality setting is an asset.

A valid Safe Food Handler’s Certificate preferred.

Experience in a Long-Term Care setting is an asset.

Must demonstrate an active interest in ongoing education.

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

The new 160-bed home will be built on the existing site of Southampton Care Centre and
will feature design improvements, including larger resident common areas and air conditioning throughout the home. The design is centred around five ‘resident home areas’, each of which creates a more intimate and familiar living space with dining and activity areas, lounges and bedrooms for up to 32 residents. The redevelopment of Southampton Care Centre is expected to be completed and welcoming its first residents by spring 2026.
