ABOUT COMMUNITY AND EMPLOYMENT SERVICES
Community & Employment Services is a part of the Owen
Sound and Area Family YMCA, a community-based, charitable
organization whose purpose is to enhance the minds, bodies,
and spirits of people in the Grey and Bruce communities.
Although the YMCA has operated in Owen Sound since 1877, Community
& Employment Services took on a life of its own, expanding
its variety of services, particularly employment services
since 1983. This has given Community & Employment Services
vast experience delivering employment and other programs in
Grey and Bruce counties.
Community & Employment Services has always been committed
to ensuring the health of the community. Economic health through
employment is a key factor in a healthy community and it is
in this area that Community & Employment Services continues
to concentrate.
In addition, however, Community & Employment Services,
along with its community partners and funders, has developed
several other services which also contribute to addressing
a variety of social issues. Our Housing Support Program provides
assistance in finding housing alternatives or in maintaining
current living situations for those who are having difficulty
doing so on their own. Working with local authorities, our
Community Justice services provide a variety of alternative
means to confront minor crimes committed particularly by young
people in our community. To some extent, these services involve
community members in the restitution process.
By working closely with other community partners, Community
& Employment Services has been able to achieve economy
and efficiency while providing quality services.
