The Crone Cup was conceived in 2003, after Jason Crone a former OSCVI student was paralyzed from a hockey check from behind. Fifteen at the time, Jason’s friends and schoolmates organized a charity hockey game to raise money to support Jason and his family. The OSCVI Falcons girls’ hockey team face off against the West Hill Raiders girls’ hockey team to battle for The Crone Cup.

The tradition continues with the game celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. Over the years, thousands have been raised for a variety of very worthy causes.

OSCVI Falcons Team Captain Keshia Jacques, West Hill Raiders Team Captain Laura McKenzie, and Jason Crone presented Denise Reid from the Rec Centre Fundraising Campaign volunteer with a cheque for $1,500 at West Hill recently.

This donation is a wonderful boost to the rec centre fundraising campaign which is close to reaching its $5 million goal. The Regional Recreation Centre is already a hub of activiy, with the opening of the double ice pad arena in April. The YMCA Aquatics, Health, Fitness and Recreation Centre is expected to open to the public on June 25, 2012.
